Welcome to Olde World Collectibles and Creations!!
The art of creation starts with a vision, followed by a passion to set it to reality. I would have to say it all started as a kid building model kits, but the kits alone weren't enough. They had to be altered, dented, wrecked or tricked out. A car rim that didn't have a tiny valve stem was unacceptable, and of course that valve stem had to have a proper valve cap. World War 2 military dioramas followed, and attention to details was top priority. I always seemed to have a need to build something.
For a couple years, when I got older, I made model replicas of different people's show cars or cars that they used to own. Soon came the medieval/renaissance festival scene. I made small, wooden castle siege models, including fully functional 1:35th scale trebuchets, ships in bottles, battle shields, small blades, leather bracers, and so much more in that category. I still occasionally do some blacksmithing and leather-work, and always love the chance to fire up the forge.
Later, I came up with many different jewelry designs, and chess set ideas. My first set was the design that you can currently see in the Gallery, titled: "Abstract Medieval Wooden Chess Set". The set you see in the Gallery is the last one of my original batch, and I cherish it more than any set I have. I use it as an example piece now, and a memory, reminding me of how far I have come in making chess sets.
Nine years later, I designed my first bullet shell chess set. I was very happy with it from the first completed version, which you can actually purchase in the "Special Orders" section of the shop. That first set has inspired many of the designs I make now.
Now, I use many different effects and styles with my chess set designs. It's fun to use the same weathering techniques that I learned way back when I was a kid on models, on my current creations, and I definitely enjoy the design stage the most- the free thought process of creating, brainstorming and spontaneously thinking of new ideas or designs.
Many people ask how I come up with my designs or ideas. I try to explain it this way: I see a certain object or have a certain thought, and somehow an idea forms. The project is then constructed 3-dimensionally in my mind, and I build it in my mind. I picture the tools I could use, shapes that I could make, steps, the project would need, and a rough idea of the finished product. This process can happen anywhere, and anytime. Once I complete the visualization, then the sketching begins. (Always keep a notepad and pen in your pocket!). Often I wake up with ideas and must write them down immediately, so they are not forgotten. (Always keep a notepad and pen by the bed!). You may understand this process, or you may not know WHAT I'm talking about. Either way, that's how my mind works when coming up with a new idea. When you combine this method with the knowledge of using tools, possibly in a way they weren't necessarily designed for, then it is inevitable that something special will come to reality by your own hand.
I want to encourage you all to follow your dreams, whatever it may be. Anything you really want to do (That is logically possible), you can and will do, if you really work hard.
Be a free thinker, be willing to ask questions and most of all, take correction, and accept possible mistakes. And if its your thing... get out there and create something!
Peace to you all.
