UPDATE! CBS has purchased 20 of these welded creatures which will be seen in an upcoming season 6 episode of the Sherlock Holmes TV show "Elementary".
Another buttonholer beetle made with a vintage singer buttonholer attachment, spoon handles, vintage typewriter parts and cash register parts, ball bearings, a bike chain link and various machine parts.
Great for indoor or outdoor home décor, porch or garden décor and maybe a heavy duty paper weight.
This new series of welded sculptures is made from recycled machinery, instruments and other various collected treasures. The pieces I use range from antique, vintage to some modern parts, but I prefer the old world machinery and gadgets because of the history behind the forgotten inventions. Taking apart the machinery is a fascinating experience because I'm handling so many different pieces that all had a purpose, some are very small and delicate and others are strange or interesting to look at, it's like being transported to another place.
Each creature is a one of a kind design, made with pieces I feel compliment each other, so I don't necessarily have specific planned ideas to make a specific creature. In the end, I have many cross mixed animal insects and they all have their own personality which is part of the beauty of creating them. The last stages of creating the sculpture is etching my signature and clear coating it.
